Join with KaramJot, and other yogic-minded men, to seek the core truths of life as a male.

The Core of Masculinity
- Rumi -

"The core of masculinity does not derive from being male,
nor friendliness from those who console.

Your old grandmother says, "Maybe you shouldn’t go to school.
You look a little pale."

Run when you hear that.
A father’s stern slaps are better.

Your bodily soul wants
comforting.
The severe father wants
spiritual clarity.

He scolds but eventually leads you into the open.

Pray for a tough instructor to hear and act and stay within you."

Rumi’s words provide an insight to the path of Exploring, Discovering, and Re-Defining, in a critical way, the role of men and the concept of masculinity; within the context of an age filled with the conflict between unexamined certainties and anxious uncertainties. It is clear that men are more than their Y chromosome, more than their culturally defined gender, and more than the roles they assume because it is expected of them.

Our investigation will consist of activities that engage and body and involve the circulation and transformation of energy, including: Kundalini Yoga, Chi Gong, and Tai Chi. Additionally we will incorporate drumming, gong, and meditation to deepen our journey into the male psyche. There will also be wide-ranging and focused discussions on the various aspects of our masculinity; physical, spiritual, mental, emotional, and social facets.

The refinement of consciousness requires the refinement of both body and mind. The techniques used will be directed towards consciously re-defining our relationship to our bodies and re-establishing our unique voices; to encounter, understand, and transform our core masculinity.
